Elevating Cleared Talent for Today’s Space Defense Challenges

The talent conversation in space and missile defense just shifted. Gen. Stephen Whiting made it clear at the Space and Missile Defense Symposium: we’re not preparing for a future fight—we’re in it. Adversaries are jamming signals, probing networks, and targeting space assets in real time, and China is building counter-space capabilities at a pace that should worry anyone responsible for fielding cleared teams in this domain.

For hiring managers and executives, this means the bar for passive candidates just moved. You need operators who understand electronic warfare, space domain awareness, and resilience architectures—not in theory, but in practice. The search for a VP of Space Systems or a Chief Engineer with TS/SCI and a track record in contested environments isn’t a nice-to-have anymore. It’s operational readiness.

Whiting also emphasized that the U.S. advantage isn’t just technology—it’s the team, including allies, commercial partners, and a broader coalition. That coalition needs leaders who can operate across classification boundaries, work with commercial integrators, and move fast. If your bench isn’t deep there, now’s the time to map the market.
