The question isn’t whether AI tooling and platform engineering are changing how cleared teams deliver—it’s whether leadership is mapping the talent implications fast enough. I’m seeing more searches where the ask has quietly shifted: less emphasis on legacy stack depth, more weight on adaptability, API fluency, and comfort operating in environments where the CI/CD pipeline is the product.
That creates a interesting problem for hiring managers. The passive candidate with the right clearance and a strong track record in your incumbent toolchain may not be the person who thrives when you’re instrumenting everything, automating gate reviews, and running security left. We’re presenting more leaders now who’ve built or rebuilt delivery functions—not just managed them—and who can speak credibly to both the CISO and the product owner.
If your next VP Engineering or Head of Mission Systems search still reads like the last one, you’re probably optimizing for a world that’s already behind you. The market’s moving. Make sure the spec is too.
