Finding Cleared Leaders Who Bridge Mission and Technology

Rocio Bauer’s profile over at WashingtonExec is worth your time if you’re thinking about what leadership looks like when you’re serving the Army through a technology lens. She’s spent her career at the intersection of mission and modernization, and the through-line is clear: deep technical chops married to an understanding of how the institution actually works.

That combination doesn’t surface often in our searches, but when it does, it changes the caliber of the slate. We see plenty of candidates with one or the other—strong operators who can’t speak the language of DevSecOps, or technologists who’ve never had to navigate a program office. The ones who can do both tend to have done time in uniform or spent years embedded with the customer, not just selling to them.

If you’re building or rebuilding a technology organization inside defense, you already know the hardest hire isn’t the one with the longest résumé. It’s the one who can translate between the mission and the machine, and who’s earned the trust to do it under pressure.
