The question in that WashingtonExec headline is the right one, but the article itself didn’t load for me—just a security checkpoint. Still worth addressing, because I hear versions of it in every retained engagement we run for cleared program leaders and CISOs.
The technologies reshaping delivery teams aren’t usually the ones that make keynote slides. They’re the ones that let a small team with TS/SCI clearances move faster than a large one without them: infrastructure-as-code that actually works in air-gapped environments, zero-trust tooling that doesn’t assume commercial SaaS, and automation that survives classification boundaries. The executives we place aren’t chasing trends—they’re mapping what’s adoptable now, inside the constraints, and building teams who can operate there.
If you’re hiring or being hired into one of these roles, the real question isn’t what’s reshaping the mission. It’s whether the leader has run delivery in that environment before, with those constraints, and can show you the scar tissue. That’s the fit that matters.
