The question in that WashingtonExec headline is the right one, but the article itself didn’t load for me—just a security checkpoint. Still, the premise is worth sitting with. Most of the cleared leaders I talk to are wrestling with the same tension: the technologies reshaping how teams deliver, secure, and operate mission systems aren’t always the ones getting the most airtime at conferences.
It’s not usually AI or quantum that’s changing the day-to-day. It’s the adoption of platform engineering, zero-trust architectures that actually work at scale, and tooling that lets small teams move faster without adding risk. The executives who map those shifts early—and hire for them—tend to be the ones we’re presenting to boards two years later. The rest are still trying to backfill for last cycle’s stack.
If you’re running delivery or security for a prime or agency, the real question isn’t what’s reshaping the market. It’s whether your bench is ready for it.
