The question isn’t whether AI and automation are changing how we deliver mission systems—it’s whether your team has the talent to operationalize them without introducing new risk. I’m seeing more searches for leaders who can thread that needle: people who understand both the promise of these tools and the accreditation, ATO, and supply chain realities that govern federal programs.
What makes these placements hard is that the skill set didn’t exist five years ago. You need someone who’s run delivery at scale, held a clearance long enough to understand the bureaucracy, and stayed current on tooling that’s evolving faster than policy can keep up. That’s a narrow aperture, and the passive candidates who fit it aren’t scanning job boards.
If you’re building or reshaping a team around these capabilities, start the conversation early. The search takes longer than you think, and the cost of a mis-hire—especially in a cleared environment—compounds quickly.
