Navigating the Talent Gap in Cleared Tech Leadership Roles

The question isn’t whether AI and automation are changing how cleared teams deliver — it’s which bets your competitors are making while you’re still mapping requirements. I’m watching program offices stand up DevSecOps pipelines that would’ve taken eighteen months three years ago, now operational in weeks. The tooling exists; the talent pipeline hasn’t caught up.

What I’m hearing from clients: they need technical leaders who can translate between legacy accreditation frameworks and continuous deployment, who’ve actually run cloud migrations at TS/SCI, and who won’t slow down to lecture the board. That’s a narrow aperture. The passive candidates worth presenting aren’t searching LinkedIn — they’re already embedded in high-performing teams, and the conversation has to start with respect for what they’ve built and a credible vision for what comes next.

If you’re hiring for transformation roles and still writing job descriptions that read like 2015, you’re selecting for the wrong profile. The market’s moved.
