Navigating the Talent Shortage in Cleared Tech Roles

The question isn’t whether AI and automation are changing how cleared teams deliver — it’s which organizations are mapping those changes early and which are still treating them as future-state. I’m watching passive candidates with track records in DevSecOps pipelines, zero-trust architectures, and AI-enabled threat detection get pulled into conversations they weren’t looking for, because the demand is outrunning supply in a meaningful way.

What makes a search hard right now isn’t the clearance or the technical depth alone. It’s finding someone who can stand up a modern delivery capability inside a legacy procurement and compliance environment — and do it without burning political capital or alienating the mission customer. That’s a narrow aperture, and it’s why retained engagements in this space take longer to map than they did two years ago.

If you’re running security or mission systems and haven’t pressure-tested your team’s posture on these technologies, you’re not behind yet. But the window’s closing.
