Rethinking Leadership: Attracting Cleared Talent in an Automated Era

The question isn’t whether AI and automation are changing how cleared teams deliver — it’s which organizations are mapping those changes to actual mission outcomes and which are still treating them as IT projects. I’m watching defense primes and emerging contractors alike wrestle with this gap, and the divide is getting wider.

The teams that get it right aren’t chasing tools. They’re rethinking how work flows through their organizations — who owns integration, how security gets baked in from the start, and what roles actually need humans with TS/SCI clearances versus where you can responsibly automate. That’s a leadership conversation, not a technical one, and it shows up fast in a search when you’re trying to fill a Chief Delivery Officer or VP of Engineering role.

If your delivery model still looks like it did in 2019, you’re going to struggle to attract and retain the senior talent who’ve already made this shift elsewhere. They want to build, not retrofit.
